Latmos Prehistorical Rock
Paintings located around Beşparmak (Latmos) Mountains revealed
that the history of the region dates back to 6000BC.
After an archeological excavation done by Australian scholar Dr.
Anneliese Peschlow on Beşparmak Mountains, it is understood that
the paintings originated in Prehistorical Era.
Furthermore these paintings are the first examples of
prehistorical rock paintings.
Up till today there has been about a hundred rock paintings
brought to daylight and although the paintings are mostly
located around the ridge of the main peak, they are scattered on
an area including the valley of Çine River as well. They form a
homogenius group in terms of demonstrative style and subject,
and except some details the likes of these paintings are found
neither in Eagean nor Mediterrenean parts of Asia Minor. They
are unique examples of their kind. |
